Work is an indispensable part of our lives. It gives us a
purpose, a meaning to our being, a sense of security and the bread & butter
that we survive on. However, at times, why do we feel that our work life is burdening
us with a solid weight of responsibilities and taking a toll on our health?
I think most of us are aware of the concept of work-life
balance, especially as it’s that one topic that almost everyone, from HRs to
healthcare ‘Gurus’, has been talking about lately. They say it is inevitable to
lead a healthy life, both mentally & physically, without balancing the time
that one gives to his/her work and other facets of life. But, how many of us
are actually able to do so?
There are very few of us who really understand the
significance of striking a balance between our professional and personal lives.
The irreplaceable value that it can add to our existence is still alien to most
people who are toiling their way to the top of the corporate ladder, although,
losing a sense of self, reality and personal relations.
What we ignore to realize is that excessiveness of anything
just makes us unproductive from every end. As technology upgrades itself every
minute, employees are approachable around the clock, thus, the line between
personal and professional keeps getting blurred resulting in a phase of
burnout. Proving this fact, a survey by Harvard Business Review states that a
colossal 94% of professionals’ work for over fifty hours a week.
Thus, it’s time for us to pull up our socks and maintain a calm, stress-free state of mind along with becoming more cognizant of what we eat and how much exercise we perform. It is essential to understand that stabilizing the mind & body can not only enhance your current state but also, add so many more years to your life.
Starting with baby steps is always a great idea, so, taking
breathing exercises during your daily commute shall help you ease out the
stress that accumulates due to work overload. The amount of time that we spend
on social media, if we just give half an hour of that in refreshing our mind,
body, and soul, wonders can be true.
I understand that getting overly occupied with work can make
us forget to focus on the positive dimensions of lives which we should cherish
in the pursuance of living a wholesome. They key to a better lifestyle is to
remember that one doesn’t have to be his/her perfect self every hour of the
day.
It high time that we go vogue with the very popular old saying
that holds utmost relevance today – ‘Life is not merely being alive, but being
well.’
